Here's to 2014!

Hello! My my, 2013 was definitely a eventful and turbulent year. There was a lot of that "out of my comfort zone" stuff going on, but ya know, I (like everyone else) emerged reasonably intact. And with a new affection for all things bird-patterned (in addition to my skis, I have a bird-themed shirt and skirt now)!

I'm still recovering from NYE, but I'm feeling good about 2014. Wonder what surprises/horrors (hopefully minor ones) it has in store...

P.S. Like the little birdies I drew?! Hehe, this tablet is awesome!!!

Go Wendy!

There's so much going on in politics this week! I was most blown away by the sheer willpower (and back strength) of Texas state senator Wendy Davis, who empowered many, many women with her 11-hour filibustering feat.

I can't wait to see where this woman's determination takes her. Time to put up a Wendy Davis Google Alert.

In honor of Wendy and her pink shoes:

From me to you: take 2

I really enjoyed coming up with my first wrapping paper design, so here's another!

It kinda puts me in a party-planning mood. Not that I've successfully planned any parties. All of the glamorous parties that I've hosted (e.g. my 12th birthday party) were put together by someone else (i.e. my mom).

Downpour

Monday. Rain, rain, go away!

My last weather-related post for a while, I promise. Can you tell that surgery has driven me insane?

Cold

I'm feeling a little winter-y this cold, dark morning. Well, I imagine that it's cold (because I'm depressed to be up so early) -- I'm waiting until the last possible minute to step outside.

From me to you

Thought I'd brighten it up a bit with these gift wrap skis! One of my favorite things about presents (those received as well as those given) is their packaging -- funky wrapping paper/ ribbons/ stickers/ doodles etc. can make even the dullest gift exciting. :)

Paris blues

It's the weekend! Time for leisure, in theory. While I don't have much time for that nowadays, I do like to think of the things I would do and places I would go if I led a more freewheeling life. A life in Paris, for instance. My, those few weeks I spent there were some of the most leisurely ones I've ever had. Fresh croissants and madeleines and creamy whole milk (I don't think skim milk exists in France) in the morning, lunch on the benches of Place des Vogues, fist-sized macarons devoured as snacks....

Le sigh.

Splatters, stripes

This one's pretty straightforward -- I'm becoming steadily obsessed with the splatter effect! Also, I've been wearing lots of stripe-y clothes recently.

K2 makeover

Ok, maybe I feel kind of bad for being so negative about my skis -- they have, after all, carried me a long way, and despite all my attempts to destroy them, have remained pretty intact (grrr). Plus, they were a gift, and I don't want to seem too ungrateful.

Still, the design on my skis is something I'd be attracted to if I were still 12 years old (back then, I had a clear backpack and a giant pink binder covered in garish roses). So if I had the chance to rework the design while staying true to the skis' essential girly-ness, I would focus in on those pink hues that sort of drive me crazy. And that's what I did.

Finally, in a gesture of appreciation and the tiniest bit of emasculation, I've named the new version of my Tru Luvs as.... drumroll... "TONI"! :)
